Constance Jones-- The Fastest Crocheter in the World?

It's on my bucket list- to become the "Guinness Book of World Records' Fastest Crocheter!" It’s currently held by Lisa Gentry who crocheted 5,113 stitches in 30 minutes in 2005. That's about 25 stitches a minute!! So could I break the record?
This weekend, I put my crocheting skills to the test at the WPLG Local 10 Live Well Expo at Broward Mall in Fort Lauderdale. News Anchor Neki Mohan was the official time keeper as I tried to break the world record.
My goal was to finish 25 stitches in a minute. Could I do it???
AWEEEEE-- I was 3 stitches off!!! Oh well. I gotta keep training!
Watch out Lisa-- I'm coming for your title!

Easy Crochet Infinity Scarf

These scarves are simple, cozy and perfect for any outfit! Here are some simple crochet instructions for this scarf!

You need:
2 skeins of worsted weight yarn (I love the fuzzy textured yarn. I used Loops and Threads Kaleidoscope)
K-hook
a yarn needle to weave in ends

Chain (ch) 17.
Foundation Row (Row 1): Double crochet (dc) in the 3rd chain from the hook (see picture above).
dc 15 across the chain and turn (this will yield a total of 16 dc if you include the 2 chains you skipped at the beginning of the row as a dc)
Row 2: ch 2, dc 15, turn.
Row 3-65 : Repeat Row 2.

This project takes two skeins-- or less-- depending on how loose you crochet. When you need to connect the next skein-- simply tie a knot at the end of the remaining yarn and keep crocheting. Weave the ends of the knots after you are finished.

Now that you have 65 rows- it's time to seam the ends together to make it an infinity scarf.

There are a lot of ways you could do this.Just put your needle into both the previous row and the end of the other side, yarn over, and pull all the way through. If you need a visual check out this link from Lion Brand Yarn’s!

Weave in the ends with a yarn needle. Finished!

Closet Crocheters - Famous People Who Crochet

Former Miami Heat Basketball Player Tim Hardaway is known breaking records on the court.  Hardaway held the record for the most assist on the Miami Heat team!  But did you know he also crochets!

Really!! Basketball Legend Tim Hardaway is a “Closet Crocheter!” I just outed him! You may ask—Constance, how do you know that? Well, he told me himself!

Along with Hardaway, there are others who like to hook in their free time. Here’s a list of unlikely crocheters:

Eva Longoria- The Mexican-American actress is best known for her role on the show “Desperate Housewives. But while Eva is shooting her movies, she spends time in her trailer crocheting!
Vanna White- Known for her role on Wheel of Fortune, White also authored several books on Crocheting.  She even has her own line of yarn!
George Washington Carver- Known as the inventor of peanut butter, this famous chemist  also spent time crocheting delicate doilies!
Aretha Franklin- She’s known as the “Queen of Soul”—winning the most Grammys for any female artist. She is a singer, songwriter and a pianist—but also enjoys crocheting. She especially enjoys the more complicated stitches, like the “pineapple and popcorn” stitch!

Constance Jones-  Most people in South Florida know me as the News Lady--I'm a News Anchor/Reporter at WPLG Local 10 News. But when the day is done—I love to crochet! It’s my “yoga” at the end of a stressful day!
